Edgar County Release Outcomes
A release is the end of one custody episode. At Edgar County Jail, that can mean community release under a pretrial order, dismissal, time served, or completion of a county sentence. It can also mean transfer to the Illinois Department of Corrections, another jail, a federal authority, immigration custody, or a medical setting. The sheriff's entry should be read by its exact label. “Transferred” does not mean the same thing as “released to the community,” while “time served” describes a sentence result and may not clear another hold.
The Edgar County Sheriff's Office controls the jail and its operational booking history. The Fifth Judicial Circuit record explains the legal act behind the movement. A person sent to IDOC becomes part of the state system, even though the criminal case began in Edgar County. A county-only inmate may never appear in IDOC. That split is why one broad name search can miss an accurate answer.
| Recorded outcome | Meaning | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Pretrial or court ordered | Outside the jail under a court order, often while the case remains open | Edgar Circuit Clerk docket |
| Time served or sentence complete | The local sentence ended | Sheriff release time and court judgment |
| Transfer to IDOC | County custody ended, state custody continued | IDOC Individual in Custody Search |
| Other agency pickup | Another warrant, detainer, or authority continued custody | Named receiving agency |
| Dismissal | One case ended, though another hold may remain | All docket and hold entries |
Edgar County Release Record Fields
The best request identifies the person and one booking episode. Ask for the booking-and-release record rather than an undefined set of “all records.” Edgar County may keep some facts in separate systems, and lawful exemptions can remove private or security-sensitive details. The FOIA officer need not create a new report. A focused request asks for existing fields and invites the office to identify the closest record it maintains.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Name, aliases, booking number | The person and custody episode |
| Booking date and agency | When the episode began and who committed the person |
| Case number and booked charges | A link to the court file, not a final disposition |
| Release date and time | When Edgar County custody ended |
| Release type or reason | The jail system's stated manner of departure |
| Releasing authority | The court order or agency basis |
| Destination or transfer agency | Whether custody continued elsewhere |
| Hold disposition and property acknowledgment | How holds and released property were recorded |
| Booking photograph | An image tied to that booking, if available and releasable |
A booking charge is only an intake snapshot. It may later be amended or dismissed. The court's final disposition is the better source for the case outcome, while the jail's timestamp is the better source for the physical departure.
Request Edgar County Release Records
The county provides an official FOIA page and a downloadable request form. Using the form can help route a request, though Illinois law does not require that exact form for an ordinary request. Address the request to the Sheriff's Office, ask for electronic copies when they already exist, and supply enough detail to separate people with similar names.
- Name the person, approximate booking dates, and court case or booking number if known.
- Ask for actual release date and time, release type, releasing authority, destination, and detainer disposition.
- Request the booking photograph separately if it is needed and available.
- Ask for partial production and a specific exemption citation if any field is withheld.
- Keep the response, source URL, and access date with the record.

Public counter hours are not published; confirm access before visiting.
Illinois FOIA generally provides five business days for an ordinary noncommercial response. A lawful extension can add five business days with notice. A response can grant, deny, partially grant, extend, or seek clarification, so the fifth day is not always the production date. No precise local retention period was verified. Ask which approved retention schedule controls an older booking or release log.
The county FOIA instructions shown here are the source for the local request route.

Edgar County Release Record Law
The Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140/3, governs ordinary requests and timing. Section 6 covers fees, while Section 7 contains exemptions. Section 2.15 describes chronologically kept arrest information and includes the time and date a person was received, discharged, or transferred when incarcerated. Its 72-hour access rule concerns arrest information. It does not create an Edgar County 72-hour release feed.
Juvenile, sealed, expunged, private, active-enforcement, and correctional-security material can be restricted or redacted. Expungement means qualifying records are removed or destroyed as the statute directs; sealing limits ordinary public access while preserving authorized access. Neither applies to every case. A missing search result may reflect those rules, a spelling issue, an old record, or limited database coverage. It is not proof that no custody episode occurred.
Find Edgar County Released Inmates
No official Edgar County current-inmate roster or recent-release archive was verified through July 16, 2026. A released person therefore cannot be confirmed by watching a name disappear from a county web list. The documented path begins with the sheriff, then follows the court case and any receiving agency.
- Call Edgar County Jail with the full name, approximate booking date, and case number. Ask whether that booking ended and whether the event was community release or transfer.
- Search the Edgar County court index for the order or disposition near the custody end date.
- If the destination was IDOC, use the state search after intake processing and read status and date fields carefully.
- Use Illinois VINE for a person-specific custody status or future notification, then confirm the event upstream.
- For a federal case, use BOP records. For an immigration transfer, use ICE only after the sheriff record identifies that route.
- Send a focused FOIA request when telephone or web checks do not settle the event.
A date-based county list is treated separately on the Released Last 24 Hours page. For a named person, the source-agency chain above is more precise.
Edgar County IDOC Release Search
The IDOC Individual in Custody Search covers current and former state prisoners. The live application accepts a partial last name, IDOC number, or birthdate. An IDOC number is the strongest starting key. A name match should be checked against the commitment county, case or mittimus number, physical description, and sentence blocks.
| Search or profile field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| IDOC number | State identifier and best search key |
| Offender Status: PAROLE | Released from prison but still under state supervision |
| Parole Date | Recorded transition from prison to supervision |
| Projected Parole Date | Estimate under the current sentence calculation |
| Projected Discharge Date | Estimate for the end of the full sentence or supervision link |
| Sentence Discharged | Applies to the displayed sentence block, not always every case |
| Parent institution or parole district | Administrative placement or supervision, not proof of residence |
A fully discharged person may no longer return a result. A no-match screen also can reflect a changed name, input error, correction, or the scope of the database. For written proof, request IDOC records and attach the Edgar County case or mittimus number.
The state search gateway shown below leads to the live name and ID application.

Edgar County Court Release Bridge
The Edgar Circuit Clerk supplies the durable link between an online name search and a certified case record. Its docket may show a pretrial-release order, dismissal, jail credit, time-served judgment, mittimus to IDOC, probation order, warrant action, revocation, or final disposition. The Edgar County Judici search is an index. Obtain the underlying order when the exact legal result matters.
The clerk lists a $6 record search and $10 certified copy, with separate reproduction and mailing charges. Fees can change. The sheriff's record remains necessary for the actual door-out time because a judicial order can precede jail processing or another hold.
The case-search screen shown here helps locate the matching Edgar County file.

Edgar County Pretrial Releases
Illinois pretrial practice changed in 2023, so community release should not be described as “posting bail” by default. The Office of Statewide Pretrial Services names Caitlin Warner as the Edgar County officer at the courthouse. That office helps distinguish a conditional pretrial release from completion of a sentence, but it is not a public inmate search.
The court order sets the legal conditions. The sheriff record supplies the actual release time. If either source is unclear, ask for the pretrial order and the booking release line rather than inferring the result from a charge or old bond field.
Getting Home After Edgar Release
Rides Mass Transit District offers public door-to-door and established-route service in Paris. The local contact is at 509 East Jasper Street and 217-466-6921. The City of Paris transportation information asks riders to call with pickup, destination, time, and return details and suggests an advance reservation.
This is a planned ride option, not a claim that a bus waits at Edgar County Jail. Release times can shift due to paperwork or another hold. A rider should arrange the trip with a realistic pickup window and reconfirm it when jail staff can provide lawful timing information.
Edgar County Release Supervision
Probation is ordered by the circuit court and handled locally. Mandatory supervised release, often called MSR, follows most modern determinate IDOC sentences and is supervised by IDOC under conditions set by the Prisoner Review Board. Traditional parole involves a Board decision for older indeterminate cases and limited special categories. Physical prison release does not equal final discharge from supervision.
- Probation
- A court sentence served in the community under local supervision.
- MSR
- Statutory supervision after an IDOC prison term.
- Parole
- Community release under state supervision, sometimes after a Board decision.
- Discharge
- The end of the sentence or supervision relationship.
IDOC's FY2025 annual report counted 20 adult parolees residing in Edgar County on June 30, 2025. That figure is only a dated residence snapshot. It is not an annual jail-release count, crime rate, jail population, or current supervision total. Verification steps are detailed on the Parole / Probation page.
Edgar County Release Notifications
Illinois VINE checks one person and can offer phone, text, email, or app notice for an available custody event. It is not a bulk Edgar County release archive. Open the matching reporting-agency record, compare identifiers, note the status wording and update time, and register only after confirming the correct record. A VINE “out of custody” result is a prompt to check the sheriff or IDOC source.
The Illinois VINE search screen shown below is the official statewide entry point.

Edgar County Federal Release Checks
Edgar County Jail is not a federal prison, and no current local federal detention contract was verified. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal records from 1982 forward and may show “Released,” “Not in BOP Custody,” and a release date. That result proves departure from BOP custody, not freedom from state, local, or immigration custody.
ICE's locator is for current immigration detention, not a criminal release archive. Use it only when the sheriff record identifies an ICE transfer or detainer. The U.S. Marshals Service may house federal pretrial detainees in contracted facilities, but it has no comparable public historical locator. Ask the physical jail and federal court about the movement.
The federal locator shown here is the correct source for a former BOP prisoner.

Edgar County Jail Release Route
Edgar County Jail is the only detention facility in the research Facility Map. The Sheriff's Office operates it at the official North Central Avenue address in Paris. Community departures, IDOC commitments, and transfers all begin with the same local release record, but they end in different search systems.
IDOC's 2024 inspection dates operating sections to 1889 and 1985 and reports a rated 43 beds. Local reporting described a Public Safety Center project and high bids, but no reliable source confirmed an opened replacement by the research date. The current sheriff address remains authoritative. A project rendering or groundbreaking notice does not prove the jail moved.
Inspection figures are historical facility facts, not today's population or a count of releases.
